Here are some good places to buy seed:
Burpee - Is a good standby Pinetree - Has great seed and has a lot of other products too! Johnny Select Territorial - Is a local (in Oregon/Pacific NW) company, and that's really good because then you can be pretty sure that the seed you get from them will do well. HPS - Has a large amount of stuff. They are Not the cheapest seed but you are going to have excellent germination (the seeds will grow) rates. Also what's good about these seed catalogues is that they have a wealth of information! Here is something that I did recently with the rocky area in my front yard. I pulled some weeds added some compost/soil and a flat of succulents to come up with this arrangement that I think looks nice. I hope it inspires you in your creative gardening!
Here are some photos of the plantings I did in the Youtube videos, so you can see how they developed! The succulents haven't increased that much in size I think partly because they have been in part shade, they probably could use a bit more sun light.
My daughter and I are going to be working on videos and hopefully we'll have some up soon! Keep checking back! Please let us know what you are interested in learning about. Thanks!
Something really cool that's happening right now across the country, is an event called Mother Earth News Fair. If you can make it to one of these events it is totally worth it! They are basically a number of lectures on various topics that people are interested in. They include things like making your own cheese, sauerkraut, goat health, pieces about tinctures, hydroponics etc. If you are interested in this click here for more info! This is a little bit of old news but this was a really nice plant sale that my daughter and I went to in the spring. There were a lot of nurseries and clubs that were selling unusual and native plants. The people were knowledgeable and I even ended up joining there club and getting a few books to boot! Plus the Hardy Plant Society will have another plant sale this fall on Sept. 15th. You can never have enough plants!
Check this website: http://www.hardyplantsociety.org/events for more info! Had some fun with my daughter getting a lot of plants for the garden. I got all this great stuff from a local nursery, Deep Creek Garden Center in Gresham Oregon, click here for more info! |
